As Functional Medicine practitioners, we’re aware of the intimate connection between the gut and brain in what is known as the gut-brain axis (GBA). Imbalances in the GBA can lead to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, fatigue– the list goes on and on. But what do we know about the brain’s impact on the gut AKA the Brain-Gut Axis
(BGA)?
Many of our patients with chronic digestive imbalances that are unresponsive to our nutritional, pharmaceutical and Functional Medicine interventions may indeed have a breakdown in their BGA. This requires a different approach to care.
